financial turmoil

well, this recession is starting to have repercussions even in the deepest darkest part of rural France that is St Fraimbault. Customers just aint coming, companies are going bust left, right and centre and everyone is starting to look a little pinched and worried.

We are hanging on in there by the skin of our teeth and knuckles, but who knows what the future holds. Still, I am totally addicted to Facebook's Word Challenge so that keeps me busy when things are quiet :)

Hi, Things sound pretty grim, is it really that bad? You say businesses are closing, which sector is particularly hit or is it a general problem?

Any *extra services* are being hit really - so builders and painters and decorators for example. As are holiday based companies (gites, mid-range hotels etc)..companies that are thriving are the pile 'em high sell 'em cheap type. Lidl and Aldi have never had it so good. The hikes in general consumer prices, a slowdown in factory production and output (meaning of course less jobs and less end of month income for your average Monsieur et Madame Lebrun) and the general nervousness about the stability of banks is taking its toll. Small businesses are starting to feel the pinch and will be affected more quickly than larger companies as banks withdraw credit facilties and loans. Don't know if it is the same in the UK...?

Hi, I think people are being more careful with money and certainly not spending it on luxuries. The talk on the radio is about a middle class recession and certainly it seems to be those who are discussing the econommic crisis. Our local town is due to have many 100's of houses built over the next few years, but the building has stopped for the moment. Asking prices for houses appear to be falling but I don't think there are many if any sales. Many houses for sale are also being advertised on the rental market. Food and fuel prices have stopped rising and in fact petrol has come down by about 10 - 12 p per litre in the last day or two.
